P.S. We Expire with Morgan Motsinger

The P.S. We Expire podcast centers around one big question: This life is short, so why are we waiting? Why are we waiting to… start a business we can’t stop dreaming about? leave a career, relationship, or religion that is unfulfilling? create habits that carry us through hard times? choose to have a loving relationship with ourselves? Welcome. I’m Morgan. I’m an entrepreneur, mother, speaker, and mayhem-maker. I learned first-hand how challenging it is to navigate unexpected and painful circumstances. When my daughter was diagnosed with an incurable, degenerative disease at age 3, I learned quickly what was most important in life. I explored psychology, spirituality, philosophy and healing. For the last 11+ years, I have learned tools and methods for mindfulness and resilience, and I share them on this podcast. When she died in December of 2022, I realized how important these mindset tools really are. We all want more fulfilled lives, but that can only happen when we have honest conversations and authentic connections. Let’s have these conversations together here on the P.S. We Expire podcast.

All the messaging and advice about how to be healthy is OVERWHELMING.
Eat this but don't eat that (it's bad for your waistline!). Do this exercise, but not that one (it's bad for your knees!). Get enough sleep, but not too much! Regularly see a therapist, chiropractor, MD, naturopath...
but how do I integrate healthy practices into my regular life? We have bills to pay, picky kids to feed, houses to clean, and also fit some type of self-care in there.
Kristen Hermanson is a bodyworker, private chef, and self-proclaimed "human in progress". Her experience dealing with health issues as a college student led her down the traditional medical route, only to discover none of her problems were solved. She pursued culinary school, sustainable farming, and more and found her passion.
Our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health are all connected. This episode explores practical ways to address our holistic needs.

Ep48: Kid Lessons

Wednesday Nov 22, 2023

Wednesday Nov 22, 2023

Spent the weekend with my kids, two of their friends, and a water park absolutely bursting at the seams with even more kids.

The weekend was an opportunity to observe them, observe my own self-consciousness (I spent a lot of time in a swimming suit in this indoor water park), and to remember that kids show us some of our most basic human needs and patterns.

Is it fair to say that adults are just big kids with jobs and bills? We still all want the same things: to be seen, validated, comforted, and nourished.

Ep47: The Truth Burrito

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023

What does it mean for something to be REAL?
What does truth mean?
Why do we have so many people saying the same thing, sharing the same kind of experience, but it only results in fighting? "I'm right!" "No, a**hole! I'm right!"
What if we are so caught up in the language frameworks (and religious frameworks) that we are missing the point?
This week I'm sharing with you how a burrito helped me capture the difference between an experience and communicating that experience to others.

"Not being able to trust yourself sucks."
This line on Rebecca's website caught my attention. I have had to learn how to navigate a lack of self-trust and how it impacts my relationships, business, and my inner peace. There's a lot of talk about "gaslighting", but what do you do when the one gaslighting you...is you?

Rebecca and I discuss what radical self-trust is and how it impacts every area of our lives. Together, we explore concepts around what it means to live in a way that makes you happy, aligned, and alive.

Ep45: Make Better Choices

Wednesday Nov 01, 2023

Wednesday Nov 01, 2023

Swirling in indecision is no fun. We use a great deal of energy waffling back and forth, making pros and cons lists, asking for advice, and worrying. This is normal. We would all love to know the outcome of our choices before we make them.

But we can't.

There is a tremendous amount of power in making a decision. Even if you don't act on it right away, choosing is powerful. When you choose, you give your brain something to focus on and to work toward.

This episode explores how we can make better choices. Thanks for joining me.

Why do we procrastinate?  And how do we stop?
This episode explores some practical tips on how to overcome procrastinating. But deeper than that, I discuss how procrastination can also be insidious when it comes to big life decisions.

Practical tips:
Set timers
Break big tasks into smaller ones
Be ruthless about your primary distractions; learn what they are and limit them
If something isn’t working, try something else. “You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” -Albert Einstein
Stop requiring perfection; perfectionists can struggle the most with procrastination
None of these little procrastination techniques matter if the things you procrastinate on are meaningless. Are you using procrastination on little things to procrastinate on the big things?
On a deeper level, you may be procrastinating:
making decisions or taking action in your career (apply somewhere else? stay where you're at? start a business?)
your relationship (you want to ask for commitment, you want to break up, you don’t like your friends but you keep hanging out with them)
your religion (it doesn’t fit anymore but you’re scared to leave)
your living situation (buy a home? sell your home? move out of state?)
getting help for your addiction
addressing your trauma
seeing a therapist for the first time or booking that next appointment
Lastly, how to stop procrastinating on the big things:
Get clear on your values
Get to know your true “yes”
Get better at making decisions (free up that energy): you already know what you want to do, but are struggling with the “why”

Once again I'm on the other side of the interview. Please enjoy my conversation with Dr. Mary Sanders from my guest appearance on her podcast. I enjoyed our conversation so much that I wanted to make sure you had easy access to it on this show as well.
Resilience is a deep topic. Resilience isn't about being happy no matter what, or a false positivity when your world is crumbling around you. Resilience is about how to continue to show up, even when the days (or weeks or years) are very dark and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
The 3 components of resilience are:
Create a process (or practice)Gain a perspectiveEmbrace personal responsibilityI hope you enjoy this conversation and that it helps you put habits and ways of thinking in place to develop greater resilience. --------Book Morgan for your next speaking engagement, whether it's a corporate or private event, large or small retreat. Ep42: How to be Happier

Wednesday Oct 11, 2023

Wednesday Oct 11, 2023

Friends, I've done it. I have cracked the code. With this SIMPLE, step-by-step plan, you will be happier in no time! You will stop having sad days, mad days, any uncomfortable days AT ALL because that's the goal, right?

If you've gotten this far, you already know this is BS. Not only is it impossible, being happy all the time isn't a great goal, and I'll tell you why in this episode. There are some very practical things you can do to increase your life satisfaction and feel happier and I'm sharing those here. But I also want to challenge your thinking and mindset when it comes to happiness.

Outside of hosting this show, I've been a guest on many podcasts. Some experiences have been not so great. Like the episode where the woman didn't know anything about me at all and when I started to talk about taking care of ourselves at a deep level she began talking about moisturizer. Not quite the kind of self-care I was referring to.

Some podcasts, however, have been vulnerable, intimate conversations. When I was a guest on Rachael Meed's podcast The Embodied Leadership Podcast, we had an amazing time together. I asked Rachael for the recording of our conversation so I could share it here. Enjoy.
