P.S. We Expire with Morgan Motsinger
The P.S. We Expire podcast centers around one big question: This life is short, so why are we waiting? Why are we waiting to… start a business we can’t stop dreaming about? leave a career, relationship, or religion that is unfulfilling? create habits that carry us through hard times? choose to have a loving relationship with ourselves? Welcome. I’m Morgan. I’m an entrepreneur, mother, speaker, and mayhem-maker. I learned first-hand how challenging it is to navigate unexpected and painful circumstances. When my daughter was diagnosed with an incurable, degenerative disease at age 3, I learned quickly what was most important in life. I explored psychology, spirituality, philosophy and healing. For the last 11+ years, I have learned tools and methods for mindfulness and resilience, and I share them on this podcast. When she died in December of 2022, I realized how important these mindset tools really are. We all want more fulfilled lives, but that can only happen when we have honest conversations and authentic connections. Let’s have these conversations together here on the P.S. We Expire podcast.

What do you do when you're facing complete burnout? When you're feeling overwhelmed, tapped out, out of alignment, how do you cope?
Dr. Mary Sanders had a 20-year career in chiropractic care before she hit her breaking point.
We explore the connection between science and spirituality, and discuss the importance of addressing the whole system and the communication between awareness and bodily systems. We also talk about the importance of dissolving previous beliefs to adopt a wider view of spirituality, the mysteries beyond what we can see, and the role of faith in understanding that there is something greater than ourselves.
I love it when my guests share practical tools and techniques for healing, and Mary shares one that I have already applied to my daily routine. She teaches how to energetically separate from others to reclaim energy and autonomy.
You can find Mary on her website www.drmarysanders.com.

Did you know all your beliefs are optional?Like, ALL OF THEM.
What you believe about yourself, others, the world, God, money, parenting...all your beliefs are up for grabs. We all filter reality through our unique perspectives. There are very, very few provable truths, which means that you have a choice. And if you get to choose whether to believe you're a piece of crap that no one will ever love or understand or that you're an amazing human worthy of the most satisfying relationships, why wouldn't you choose the latter?
Our beliefs are DEEP. Many of them we picked up in childhood. But you are not stuck with any of your beliefs. Neuroplasticity (the ability to be cognitively flexible) continues your entire life. You can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.
I've got three beliefs today that you can choose to adopt. Or not. But whatever you do, start to be intentional about which beliefs you're willing to act as if they're true because your beliefs determine your behavior which determine the direction of your life.

I know it's hard. You feel alone...a lot. Probably more than you admit. You laugh at self-care memes, and not because they're funny, but because you wonder how in the world you could have the time, energy, or money to take care of yourself. Your relationships are suffering, your health is suffering, and sometimes you feel resentful about your reality.
You are a parent with a special needs child and these feelings are NORMAL.
Even though Anni passed away last year (2022), I will always consider myself a special needs parent. For over a decade, I fought for her care to be the best it possibly could be.
This episode is divided into 3 messages: 1) to parents of special needs kids 2) to friends/family/community of those parents 3) to the broader world
You are not alone.

Use this meditation when you are feeling:

The person on the other side of the love can be someone you're struggling to forgive, someone you love that you want to send loving energy toward, or yourself.
This is an adaptation from the method taught by Phil Stutz which I learned in his book The Tools.

It doesn't seem like we should be able to lie to ourselves, but many of us do. We are largely unaware of the self-trust that is being broken down when we we say yes when we really want to say no. When we hide how we really feel in order to belong we erode our confidence.
I definitely used lying as a way to avoid getting in trouble as a kid. I learned that I could avoid disappointing my parents if I just told some half-truths or little white lies. I have had to learn as an adult how to tell the truth even when I have a lot of programming telling me to keep myself safe by not telling the truth.
Telling the truth has impacted my relationships, not always in pleasant ways. The benefit, however, has been exponentially increased self-love, self-trust, confidence, and building the skill of having tough conversations.
Join me for this solo episode where I discuss how we can live authentically and what that popular phrase actually means.

How do you keep motivation going when you don't see results? How do you handle someone you love cutting you out of their life? What can you do to stop swirling doom thoughts? When do you announce a big change in your business?
I'm experimenting today. Before podcasts and social media, you'd listen to callers on the radio, phoning in with their questions and stories. I invited listeners to share their challenges with me, and today I'm answering those questions.
The best advice always directs us back to our own deep wisdom. I share questions you can ask yourself along with my personal experiences dealing with heartache, limiting beliefs, and public visibility.

Changing how we talk to ourselves may be the most important skill we can possibly develop. We are often unaware of the internal dialogue that shapes how we behave and what we believe is possible.
In this episode, I'm sharing 4 phrases that we can stop using immediately to improve our outlook. I'm also talking about how we implement change.
1) I'm trying
2) I shouldn't/should
3) I can't
4) I don't have time

What is the cost of connecting in a digital world? More and more research is showing the difficulties of connecting online. In a time when we feel more able than ever to communicate with others, we have an epidemic of loneliness and disconnection. Why is that?
In this episode, Dr. Nick Morgan shares his findings on why digital communication is so difficult and what the consequences are of taking our personal and professional relationships online.
Dr. Nick Morgan is one of America’s top communication speakers, theorists, and coaches. A passionate teacher, he is committed to helping people find clarity in their thinking and ideas – and then delivering them with panache. He has been commissioned by Fortune 50 companies to write for many CEOs and presidents. He has coached people to give Congressional testimony, appear in the media, and deliver unforgettable TED talks. And he has himself spoken, led conferences, and moderated panels at venues around the world. During the last election cycle, he provided expert commentary on the presidential debates for CNN. His latest book is Can You Hear Me?, on the perils of virtual communication, published by Harvard in 2018.

There are two ways to talk about body image:
1) the reality (what the scale or tape measure says, what size clothing we wear)
2) what we believe about the reality (weighing XXlbs is bad)
The stories we tell ourselves about our physical reality will make the biggest difference in how we view ourselves. There is no perfect weight. There is no perfect body. People who seem to be at the perfect size may still have crippling self-loathing.
How do we address this? Today I'm sharing mindset shifts that impact how we relate to our bodies. Thanks for joining me for this episode of the P.S. We Expire podcast. I'm so glad you're here.
